The knowledge community continues to unite around Snjallræði

Application deadline tonight at Midnight!

Last week a new chapter began for Snjallræði, a proven platform for impact innovation since 2018. A newly signed declaration of intent marks a formal partnership between the University of Iceland, Reykjavík University, and the University of Akureyri to jointly manage the accelerator, in collaboration with the City of Reykjavík, Marel, and the University of Iceland Science Park. The City of Reykjavík renewed their commitment to contribute funding, facilities, and manpower to the project, which has already demonstrated success as a hub for innovation serving society.

The declaration was signed at an event in Gróska, where representatives from the University of Iceland, the University of Akureyri, Reykjavík University, and the City of Reykjavík gathered. The event also featured discussions on the importance of design thinking and research in innovation, with participation from Dr. Svava Gröndeldt, who leads MITdesignX, and several entrepreneurs.

MITdesignX, an innovation accelerator affiliated with MIT’s design department, has provided professional guidance to Snjallræði since 2022. The collaboration has greatly benefited Iceland’s knowledge community, as universities adopt the methodology and build domestic expertise.

This agreement marks an important step for Iceland’s growing innovation ecosystem. In recent years, more accelerators have emerged, specializing by sector and development stage—from early ideas to advanced projects. Icelandic creativity and entrepreneurship continue to shape the future economy.

The application deadline for Snjallræði 2025 is midnight tonight, Thursday, August 21. We encourage students and staff with fresh ideas to apply and look forward to welcoming the next generation of innovators.
